AI Workshops Outline Benefits and Cautions

As the use of artificial intelligence becomes infused in daily activities, understanding the best practices in higher education and in general has become increasingly important. 51¶¯Âþ is introducing a series of workshops to help students, faculty and staff understand how to use AI responsibly, use it in everyday life and how to properly add it to your workflow.
The fist of five workshops was held Wednesday, featuring Dr. Titania Adams ’95, CEO of Cornerstone AI Partners and a certified AI consultant. She discussed responsible use of AI, including AI readiness, risk management, privacy, governance and responsible implementation.
During her session, Dr. Adams walked through scenarios and attendees discussed appropriate options and why.
“AI cannot be limited to one platform, it works across all platforms” she said. “AI makes a lot of assumptions, especially if you don’t prompt it properly.
“AI can affect coursework, teaching, student support and institutional trust,” she said.
Throughout the morning session in the Brimmer Hall auditorium, she asked attendees to think about how to move through AI use and to regularly question the responses provided by AI. Different tasks provide different levels of risk. “Whenever the outcome affects somebody, then the risk changes. Just because AI can do something doesn’t mean it should be used. Do not accept the response because it sounds polished and confident.”
Dr. Thierno Thiam, Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost, said the goal is to make sure TU students, faculty and staff are fluent in the use of AI and by doing so it increases operational efficiency.
“Through partnerships with organizations such as Google, Amazon, UNCF and Cornerstone AI Partners, participants will be introduced to the rapidly evolving world of artificial intelligence and its practical applications in education, research in daily work.”
“The AI workshops demonstrate that 51¶¯Âþ is not only preparing its community for the future, but is actively helping shape it” he said. “Through continuous learning and responsible innovation, the University is ensuring that faculty, staff and students are equipped to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven world.”

- 11 a.m. Oct. 20 the Google presentation for beginners is Get Started with Gemini: Discover Gemini for Education and learn how to use it safely, effectively, and ethically
- 11 a.m. Oct. 20 the Google presentation is Productivity & Efficiency: Learn how Gemini can help save time by streamlining routine tasks, administrative workflows, and content creation
- 11 a.m. Nov. 11 Mike Green of Google will present Agentic AI
Each session is meant to be interactive and open to students, faculty and staff.
